Career Express Portal

Summary of Program

Career Express Portal is a fourteen week professional skill set, college selection and career preparation program for participants  between the ages of 18 - 19. Youth enrolled in the program will spend four weeks in Inherent Skill Set Identification training, four weeks in workshops and four weeks at an internship worksite.

Upon successful completion at the internship worksite, the remaining two weeks participants  will spend reviewing and evaluating their program experience with their teacher and 4T's Program Administrator.

Program Overview

The Career Express Portal is designed to help participants identify their Inherent Skill Set, align their skill set to their education in order to select a college or career that effectively aligns  with their skill set. Applicants will go through a competitive application and interview process. Once selected, they will attend four weeks of skill set identification training before being assigned to a workshop. Upon successful  completion of workshops, applicant will then be placed into an internship worksite for four weeks.

The trainings include: Identify Inherent Skill Set, develop 5 year education and career plans, learn college and career research and selection processes, time and financial management, work readiness, inteview skills and preparation, workplace navigation, resume writing and financial literacy. Participants are connected to an internship, where they peform entry level skills, receive exposure to business practices, shadow professionals, and obtain hands-on experience.

Throughout the internship, participants will receive support and coaching while they are required to consult their mentor, complete reflections,  feedback, and a report. They will present their report by the completion of the career express portal program.

Participants will work with staff to connect with post-internship programs which meet the needs of the participants. These include connections to: jobs, training programs, college and career coordinators.
